It must be in the semantics of the word, because when I said "need", I never even thought of money or material things.
I guess I don't like someone saying they need me because to me it creates too much pressure!

I had a boyfriend that said he needed me in his life to make him happy etc., but I wasn't happy in the relationship, and when you think someone's happiness is hinging on whether you are with them or not - it is really hard to take. I would prefer "I want you in my life because you make me happy." I know - it probably doesn't seem like a big difference, but it is to me.
