 My Jamaican King
My Jamaican King
5 years ago May I walked by the sea sipping rum under the coconut tree You said, "Excuse me, I like your style. Would you mind if we talk for a likkle while?"
I thought to myself, "you can't be talking to me". "but all of my good fortune does happen by the sea". I looked into your deep brown eyes and felt what you said was from the heart. I met you every day at lunch for more ties that bound me to this very part.
As the years passed and our talks became longer, the ties that bound us became much stronger. I knew you seen past what others did not. That is not something that can be taught. We longed for the day when we could be one. We knew we were dreamers, fed by the sun.
The time came when I would see you again. I saved all my pennies and brought my good friend. When I ran to hug you, I felt such joy. You are my king, not a boy or a toy. You cooked me curry chicken and then held me close. My toes they did curl, and my spine tingled most. The kiss was long dreamt of by you and by I. and it was more than we hoped for, it made us both cry.
I felt sixteen that week I must say. The laughter and tears were a plenty each day. The time did come when I knew we must part. I felt like a piece was ripped from my heart. I cried and I held you, as you pleaded, "don't cry". "My queen I want to make you happy - I try". "But that's why I'm crying, cus I know that's true" "You're all that I want and I want you happy too".
The months that followed were heart wrenching too. We tried so hard to make our dreams come true. But this fall, they were crushed and you left for work. I miss you, my Jamaican King. I miss every quirk. Please won't you call me and tell me wha gwaan? I understand the frustration and if we must move on.
I can't take not knowing if you're okay. If I can't have you, I just want you to know. I'm a better woman since I met you. My Jamaican King I love you too.

 Re: My Jamaican King
Thank you. I know it's not one one of my better poems but I wrote it as I posted it - because I needed to get it out - sometimes that helps.

 Re: My Jamaican King
For sure...I'm more of a writer than a talker, when it comes to my feelings and stuff, so I relate.
I have to know though...have you heard from or seen your JA King lately?

 Re: My Jamaican King
Sorry I wasn't around to reply. Thanks so much for your feedback. I have published but not for years now. I haven't heard from my Jamaican King since Halloween and may not - have no idea where he is but suspect he is still in Cayman Islands working.
